Tax Executives Institute honored four individuals with awards at ceremonies during the 50th Annual Conference in Nashville. Harry F. McKeon, Jr., of Andover, Mass., received the 1995 TEI President's Award, which recognizes long-term meritorious service to the Institute. Three veteran tax administrators were awarded TEI's Distinguished Service Award, which recognizes outstanding achievements in the field of tax administration. The recipients were: John J. Monaco, a 33-year veteran of the Internal Revenue Service who retired earlier this year as Assistant Commissioner (Examination), Douglas J. Sherbaniuk, who recently retired after 27 years as director of the Canadian Tax Foundation, and R. Alan Short, former General Director, Tax Policy Branch, of the Canadian Department of Finance, who recently retired after 28 years of government service.
TEI Legacy
Harry McKeon retired as Vice President and Treasurer of Biltrite Corporation in September of this year, concluding 25 years with the Waltham, Mass.-based rubber products manufacturing company. He joined the Institute in 1962 and has been an active member of TEI's New England Chapter since 1968. Mr. McKeon chaired a variety of chapter committees, served on the chapter board of directors, and was elected 1977-1978 chapter president. His lengthy record of service to the professional association at the national level includes membership on TEI's State and Local Tax Committee from 1978 to 1995; he chaired the committee from 1991 to 1993. He has also served on the Institute's Membership Committee, Nominating Committee, and Continuing Education Committee, and was elected by his peers to be one of the Institute's nine Vice Presidents in 1991-1992.
TEI President Jack R. Skinner presented the award at the conference's Tuesday evening banquet. Mr. McKeon's wife, Joan, also participated in the presentation ceremony.
