LYBURN - When Trails Heaven gets to Kanawha County, tourists will have an exciting new location to visit, though for four-wheeled vehicles only.
The Hatfield-McCoy Regional Recreation Authority seeks to open only a full-size, 4x4-vehicle park, emphasized Executive Director Matt Ballard. Such vehicles might include Chevrolet Avalanche, Ford Bronco, Dodge Ram, Hummer, Jeep, Toyota Tacoma and Land Rover Discovery.
The authority's board authorized Ballard last winter to seek willing landowners in Kanawha County who would enter into a mapping agreement. The authority then will inventory and explore potential areas for a full-size 4x4 vehicle park. The Kanawha County Commission unanimously supports this project, Ballard said.
"That represents increases of 31 and 41 percent, respectively, over 2004," he said.
