HealthCentral.com's Fred Toney believes in taking his vitamins.
Toney said the Emeryville-based online health care company's $103.5 million acquisition of Vitamins.com, announced March 16, will improve its financial health by tripling its revenue.
"We're very excited about the acquisition because it will augment our e-commerce business and bring us a lot of new customers," said Toney, HealthCentral's executive vice president and chief financial officer. "This is significant because it will help us reach our goal of becoming the largest e-commerce and content company in the health care area."
Prior to the acquisition, analysts had projected that HealthCentral would generate $20 million in revenue this year, but they've since raised their estimates to $60 million because Vitamins.com, based in Falls Church, Va., reported $30.5 million in revenue last year and is expected to increase that figure this year.
