WHAT'S HOT: HP's latest PhotoSmart camera has an SLR-like feel and lots of user-friendly controls. There are more dials and buttons than you see on most digital cameras, but that means you rely less on menus, making the camera faster and easier to use. Following the single-lens reflex theme, the camera displays f-stops and shutter speeds prominently in the optical viewfinder, making it especially efficient when you're using the manual or semiautomatic exposure settings. A small dial just below the trigger lets you speed through the aperture and shutter speed settings.
Unlike most digital cameras, which use tiny buttons for zoom, the 912 has a wide rubber grip on the large lens barrel. We also like the flip-up LCD screen; when you rotate it perpendicular to the camera back, it lets you view your subjects with the camera at waist level-- handy for shy subjects.
