The new pharmacy order-filler at the Meridia Health System dispenses 1,500 doses of medicine a day and works with robotic intensity -- not altogether surprising, given that the job is held by a robot.
Since January, Meridia Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights has used a $500,000 robot to fill its daily supply of inpatient medication, said Ronald Mortus, director of pharmacy services for the system.
"It's really very quick and cuts by two-thirds the amount of time it takes to process" a 24-hour supply of medication, Mr. Mortus said. That task usually takes 4 1/2 hours; the robot can do it in about 90 minutes thanks to its tireless mechanical arm.
