ELKHART -- Steve Schemenauer isn't afraid to work and he isn't afraid to stand up for what he believes in. These traits have helped him in his role as vice president of finance for Accessories by Sherwood.
"I grew up around business," he said, having worked in his father's companies his whole life.
Ron Schemenauer, Steve's father, got his start in business in the 1970s when he owned a company that made poured-plastic products for the van industry. When that market slumped, Ron Schemenauer decided to get into the mobile home/recreational vehicle industry. The initial step into this market has led to the development of two companies: Accessories by Sherwood and Sherwood Industries.
Sherwood Industries engraves, frosts and etches designs and patterns on glass and mirrors that are sold to the mobile home and recreational vehicles industries and to OEM, furniture and gun cabinet distributors. Schemenauer said the company sells to all top 10 RV manufacturers.
"We're probably one of the largest glass printers in the country," he said, adding that there aren't many others who do this type work.
The plant runs 24 hours a day, six days a week and processes over 200,000 pounds of glass each week. Sherwood Industries receives up to 150 truckloads of glass and mirrors per year and stocks 10 to 12 loads of glass and...
