Mark Hoffman has come a long way since he first got excited about e-commerce, partnered with a co-worker and started a business on credit cards.
The thought makes him smile today. Commerce One, the publicly traded Walnut Creek e-commerce company he founded in 1996, had 1998 revenue of $2.5 million and now employs 400.
But that's nothing new for Hoffman, who cofounded Sybase Inc. in 1984. He grew it to $1 billion in sales and 5,000 employees.
"We're creating a global trading Web," said 52year-old president, CEO and chairman Hoffman. "Right now we're finding partners around the world to join us in transforming the way businesses are going to interact - on a global basis and electronically. To me, it's a fabulous thing."
