A new boat is parked along Louisville's waterfront but don't expect it to fit in with the restored Belle of Louisville.
Instead, the boat - dubbed the USS Frightliner - will be a haunted house attraction for older children and adults looking for a fright. The boat is owned by Covington, Ky.-based BB Riverboats Inc., which operates another Halloween boat outside in Newport Ky., across the Ohio River from Cincinnati.
"It's a unique attraction," said Allen Rizzo, general manager of BB Riverboats. "It just looks haunted."
Hornblower Marine Services of Kentucky is renting the boat as an added waterfront attraction. Hornblower operates the Belle of Louisville and the Spirit of Jefferson, cruising riverboats both owned by Louisville-Jefferson County Metro Government The company is a subsidiary of New Albany-based Hornblower Marine Services Inc.
The USS Frightliner will be stationary, according to Rizzo.
Permission granted to dock boat
In August, Hornblower officials received permission from the Waterfront Development Corp., manager of Waterfront Park, to anchor the boat there, according to Mike Kimmel, deputy director of the Waterfront Development Corp. Hornblower will pay a fee to the agency depending on how much revenue the boat brings in, he said.
