Not all the niches are filled in the hotly-competitive field of supplying equipment for car washes. Quebec-based Kesseltronics Inc. is out to maintain a place in a proliferating market for electronic control systems alongside Calgary's Exacta Controls Ltd.
The Western operation has emerged as a key supplier to the big-brand service station chains in Canada. But the market for car wash gear is too big for one supplier to corner. There are also independent retailers and international interest in technology pioneered in Canada.
The latest Canadian gear comes from the high end of technical product development by experts with international professional pedigrees. After Jan van Kessel immigrated to Canada, he started out working at McGill University in the robotics and computer vision group of the department of electrical engineering.
