When Mary Ellen Hamor, the new director of sales and marketing for the Hotel Parisi, returned from a recent trade show in New York, she brought with her a small but significant piece of business.
"Trade shows are usually about relationshipbuilding and you earn business over time," Hamor said. "But one of the agents at the show had a client who was coming to La Jolla.
"He comes several times a year and he wanted someplace different to stay."
The luxury boutique hotel at Prospect Street and Herschel Avenue in La Jolla is touted as an urban retreat, offering a variety of on-call services, including in-room wellness and spa treatments, such as massage therapy, yoga, and nutritional counseling.
The New Yorker, a financial consultant, appreciated the highspeed Internet service available in his suite and the fact that it was large enough - about 700 square feet - to accommodate business meetings with roomservice provided by the hotel's caterer, the nearby Tapenade Restaurant. He also liked the quiet atmosphere of the Parisi and convenience of being in the heart of the community's downtown, Hamor said.
