HEWLETT-PACKARD Co. has expanded its hardware and software offerings in an effort to improve its storage area network capabilities.

HP, based here, expects by the end of this month to release the HP OpenView OmniBack II version 3.5, which integrates several other software packages to offer an automated backup and recovery solution that does not impact server or application performance, said Bob McGraw, brand marketing manager at HP's Storage Organization.

OmniBack II integrates with HP's Business Copy and Continuous Access XP software for local and remote mirroring on its flagship XP256 array, said McGraw. "This gives fast recovery in case of disaster," he said.
