In the September 1 issue, I likened the HP NetServer LX Pro to a Formula One race car. Of course, not all of us can afford a hobby as expensive as Formula One racing, nor do we need the power and capacity of an enterprise-class server. For those of us with more modest means and needs, Hewlett-Packard Co. brings us the NetServer LH Pro. Think of the LH as the street version of HP's racing machine. It may lack some of the bells and whistles, but it still has plenty of muscle and speed.
The LH Pro is the perfect machine for those who need a fast file and print server, an applications server or a small workgroup database server. Fully loaded with two 200-MHz Pentium Pro processors, 1 GB of RAM and up to 24 GB of internal storage, the LH Pro has more than enough horsepower to handle almost anything on the road.
Revved Up and Ready to Go Like a car that comes in only two colors and two body styles, the LH Pro has only two options. It comes with or without an array controller and comes with one or two processors. You can't even choose your engine size, uh, processor speed. The LH Pro comes with the 200-MHz Intel Pentium Pro processor with a 256-KB Level 2 cache. It still can get a bit confusing with only four possible combinations of options, because HP calls them all "Model 1." The array models...
