ATLANTA -Jay Stein, the man behind the Universal Studios theme park concept, is the newest living inductee into the IAAPA Hall of Fame.
He was presented with the honors during the 81st annual International Assn. of Amusement Parks & Attractions Convention and Trade Show here, Nov. 16-20. The show was the second most attended ever, with 29,399 registered. it was the largest ever with 1. 1 million gross square feet being used by the 1,200 companies that exhibited.
John Collins, a consultant director of The Tussauds Group in the U.K., has been tagged as the association's third vice chairman and will ascend the offices to become chairman in 2003.
The Applause Award Board of, Governors met and selected the three finalists for the coveted Applause Award, to be presented during the IAAPA activities in November 2000. Vying for the general excellence award are Blackpool (England) Pleasure Beach; Parc Asterix, near Paris, France; and Hersheypark, Hershey, Pa.
IAAPA HALL OF FAME
In addition to Stein, four industry pioneers were inducted as posthumous members of the Hall of Fame. They are Alberic J. Florizoone, Dick Pope Sr-, Herbert Schmeck and Giovanni Zanoletti. Florizoone was a Belgium beekeeper who created a center of education and entertainment based on his hobby The facility later became Meli Park.
