With 400,000 square feet of space, 11 major galleries and a $25 million operating budget, The Children's facility of its kind in the nation. But its size couldn't save the organization from the economic downturn. At its peak at the end of 2007, the museum's endowment stood at $316 million. It nosedived to $208 million in the first quarter of 2009, and has since recovered to approximately $244 million.
It all shakes out to about half a million dollars trimmed off the organization's budget in 2009, and approximately $1.5 million in 2010.
