STRONG SUPPORT for Linux from Lotus Development Corp. and parent IBM Corp. could breathe life into these established players, said resellers and ISVs.
Lotus, based here, plans to ship its Domino server on Linux by year's end. So far, Lotus reports more than 26,000 downloads of Domino for Linux after the company released a sneak preview of the code earlier this month. And IBM, Armonk, N.Y., said it would port its application set to Linux.
Lining up behind customer interest creates new markets for IBM/Lotus and offers a chance for the developer to shed its antediluvian image, said industry watchers.
