"Static to slightly up" describes Idaho's summer tourism season based on early reports.
That is the assessment of Carl Wilgus, Idaho Department of Commerce tourism administrator.
"Keep in mind, however, that this continues to represent growth over last year's record year," he said, noting growth for 1996 was about 3 percent compared to the double-digit gains seen in the early '90s. "Much like Idaho's general economy, tourism is experiencing a slowing growth trend."
Final performance figures on Idaho summer tourism are not yet available from IDOC, though early indications point to modest growth, said Wilgus
"This same feeling seems to be echoed throughout the state, where (sales at) one business may be up several percentage points, while the one down the block is down by an almost equal percentage," according to the Department of Commerce official.
