Online provider Internet Investment Education has added Barclays iShares, a family of Exchange Traded Funds, as investment options for The 401(k) Solution, which offers a host of investment, recordkeeping and consulting services. Darwin Abrahamson, ceo of IIE, said iShares are attractive to 401(k) advisors because they allow advisors to create more efficient asset allocation models. "iShares provide a lot greater variety as far as indices," Abrahamson said. "Participants can increase the returns and decrease the risks for their portfolios by diversification." Abrahamson said that in the past, ETFs were prohibitively expensive for participants because most providers required that participants set up self-directed brokerage accounts and pay the requisite brokerage fees to invest in ETFs. IIE does not require SDBAs for iShare trading, he said. "We're trading ETFs on an omnibus platform," he added. Abrahamson said The 401(k) Solution also offers Barclays collective trusts and Dimensional Fund Advisors institutional funds.
