TELECOMWORLDWIRE-2 August 2000-Ikea set to launch online shopping in Sweden (C)1994-2000 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com Ikea, the Swedish chain of furniture stores, is ready to open for online selling. Due to problems with a test version of the site the launch of Ikea's online furniture shopping was postponed from 10 April without a new launch date being set. However the company has now decided that the service will commence on 7 August. The site is already running at http://www.ikea.se, but there will be maintenance and updates during the week before the official launch and the site may not be working all of the time until that date, according to Ikea. Apart from online shopping, the site also contains information on items in stock at Ikea's various Swedish stores, and customers can check if a particular product is available at the store closest to them. It appears that the system only covers Sweden at the moment. Framfab, the designer of the Ikea site, approved of the decision to postpone the launch as the site is intended to cope with large numbers of orders from day one, which means that it has to be quite fail-safe.
