The use of natural organisms such as insects, bacteria, fungi, viruses, nematodes and even animals that promote and protect plant growth has, in itself, become a growing industry within agriculture.
According to Indigo Ag, that industry is part of an overall system, known as beneficial agriculture, which includes the use of regenerative practices, digital platforms, and more. It's a system that can benefit more than just the producers who use it."
The company is headquartered in Memphis, TN.
"Very simply, we believe agriculture can be more beneficial for people and the planet," says Karsten Neuffer, Global Chief Commercial officer at Indigo Ag. "This vital system can offer more value to everyone in the agricultural supply chain, from growers and buyers, carriers and shippers, to consumers and even the planet.
"This system can and is creating more value in farming communities, decreasing the reliance on fertilizer and chemicals through the use of regenerative practices, microbial technology, and digital agronomy that allows consumers to trace how and where their food was grown. Transparency, efficiency, and environmental sustainability underscore beneficial agriculture, from farm to fork.
"In the movement to explore the potential of more beneficial agriculture, soil health will be restored, consumer wellness will be supported, and farmer sovereignty will be prioritized.
"Our environment will be preserved for future generations, while the demands of feeding a growing population will be met."
FOUNDED ON MICROBES
Indigo launched in 2014 with a mission to harness nature to sustainably feed the planet.
"We were inspired by insights from the human microbiome," says Neuffer. "Indigo began with the hypothesis that naturally occurring microbes - endophytes - living inside a plant can optimize crop health and improve productivity.
"These microbes became the basis for seed coatings. These innovative, nature-derived products complement a plant's natural processes to improve crop health while increasing yield in the face of external stress such as insufficient water, low nitrogen, high temperature, and salty soils.
"In addition to the environmental benefits of this nature-based solution," he continues, "Indigo Ag's microbial products offer growers the ability to improve their profitability by increasing yield, lowering input costs, and earning a premium for the environmental savings associated with their crop. In turn, producers can satisfy consumers' increasing demand for higher quality and...
