PT Pupuk Iskandar Muda (PIM) has awarded Toyo Engineering Co (TEC) of Japan the $250m contract to build the company's new $250m, 570,000 t/a ammonia-urea plant at its site in Lhokseumawe, in northern Sumatra. The plant will double the company's urea capacity, with most of the production being destined for export. A small amount of surplus ammonia (15-60,000 tIa) will also be available for sale. Gas for the plant will be supplied at $2/mmBtu from Pertamina's nearby Asamera field. The plant, originally due for start-up in 2000, is now likely to be operational by the end of 2001.
