It was a gut-wrenching decision. As a single mother with no other means of financial support, Darla Hoffer debated whether she should abandon the security of a full-time job to start her own business.
"Once you make up your mind, you have to move fairly quickly or you will back down," said Hoffer, who is 45. 'There is no such thing as an opportune time to start your own business."
In 1996 Hoffer took the chance and founded Minnetonka-based Insight Technical Services, which matches companies and technical professionals. In the last four years, she transformed the staffing firm from a start-up based out of her living room into a profitable $750,000-a-year venture.
