SAN JOSE, CALIF. - The Crystal CS4201 audio codec from Cirrus Logic Inc. packs into one chip a microphone preamp, phase-locked loop, headphone amp and S/PDIF transmitter, plus the features of a standard AC'97 codec. It's designed to provide on-board audio for motherboard manufacturers, as well as support for boards that follow Intel's Communications and Network Riser specification. Intel's CNR enables OEMs to add communications and multimedia features simply by adding riser cards.
