Intel Corp. plans to eliminate 100 Valley repair positions in about six months while entering all the displaced employees into its "redeployment" program leading up to the layoffs.
The program is set up to help employees land other posts within the chipmaker's worldwide network of operations, said Intel spokeswoman Jeanne Forbis. Workers are offered up to four months of full pay while they seek other positions within, or outside, the company. At the end of the term, if they have not found employment, they are released from the company.
Santa Clara, Calif.-based Intel will shut down its motherboard repair sector in Chandler to outsource the work. According to Forbis, it's a "more cost-effective" route for the company.
She said it was against company policy to reveal the identify of the vendor who will provide the outsourced services.
