Jim Hoskins took over Jan. 1 as general manager of Harrah's New Orleans Casino's 2,400 full- and part-time employees, compared with the 2,350 before Hurricane Katrina. Hoskins was previously senior vice president and general manager of Grand Casino Gulfport, and from 2003 to 2005, he was senior vice president and chief financial officer of Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
What does it take to run a casino?
You have to have great people working for you. It's just that simple. My days vary depending if we have events or promotions and what is going on around the casino and hotel. A lot of my time is spent dealing with community issues and serving on different councils and boards.
