Land Rover LR3 is an off-road hero
The all-new Land Rover LR3 has the potential to be both the hero and the goat.
It will be hailed hero if it reestablishes the Land Rover brand, advents a quality platform upon which future models will ride and ushers in new prosperity.
Off-road, the LR3 is a veritable goat, able to conquer any terrain with some of the most innovative engineering on the market.
The '05 LR3 midsize premium SUV (named Discovery 3 outside North America) was engineered with U.S. buyers in mind, but also must work as a global vehicle.
It is the first new Land Rover since the auto maker was bought by Ford Motor Co. in 1999 and arrives at a time when the British nameplate desperately needs a hit.
The LR3 goes on sale in November, priced at $44,995 for the base-level SE, and $49,995 for the HSE. That's about $10,000 more than the outgoing Discovery.
