The not-quite-2-year-old Iowa Asian Alliance will present its second round of AdmirAsian Awards Saturday, Oct. 25, at the headquarters of one of its corporate partners, Pioneer HiBred International Inc. A cocktail reception for the five honorees begins at 5 p.m., and the awards ceremony follows at 6 in Pioneer's Carver Center, 7200 N.W. 62nd Ave., Johnston.
The IAA was incorporated in January 2002 to represent and promote the business, economic and community development of a united Asian-American community in Iowa.
The AdmirAsian Award winners are:
* State Rep. Swati Dandekar, D-Marion, Person of the Year. Dandekar is the first Asian-American to be elected to state office. Prior to her election to the Iowa House of Representatives last year, she was a member of the Vision Iowa board of directors, chairing the Hall of Pride criteria committee and serving on the negotiating teams for the Polk County/Capital City Vision Projects, the McGregor/Marquette Area Legacy project and the Waterloo/Cedar Valley River Renaissance project.
