As the Cayetano administration nears its close, the governor's top cabinet appointments are updating their resumes. That includes Attorney General Earl Anzai, who could be the next executive director of the Research Corporation of the University of Hawaii.
"I think Earl Anzai is a done deal" for taking over RCUH, says J.N. Musto, executive director of the University of Hawaii Professional Assembly. "It's a question of when, not what if."
The RCUH board of directors will choose the replacement for Harold Masumoto, a top aide to former Gov. John Waihee. Masumo to will be taking over the Pacific International Center for High Technology Research.
Anzai wouldn't discuss the RC job, other than to say the interview process hasn't begun and it's not the only job he may be interested in pursuing. He did not disclose any other possible career choices.
The executive director oversees a staff of 26. The salary range for the position is between $82,944 and $130,092 a year Masumoto earns $112,000.
The governor says if Anzai wants the RCUH job, he will have to apply and go through the selection process, says Kim Murakawa, the governor's spokeswoman.
