_: Pakistan has already entered into export of motorcycles but has to make its presence felt by establishing superb quality standard, particularly fuel efficiency and also ensuring ample supply of parts in the 'replacement' market. Making a few shipments is easy but acquiring repeat order is a difficult task. This achievement has been made by the local manufacturers with the least support by the Government of Pakistan (GoP).
In Pakistan motorcycle manufacturers have attained two major milestones: 1) level of indi genization touches almost 100 percent and 2) dozens of local brands have attained market recognition. This became possible mainly because of large order size following an unwritten standardization of components. Achieving economy scale has helped not only brining down cost of components but also discouraged smuggling of parts/accessories, which is rather common in case of four wheelers.
Besides three leading Japanese brands/local assemblers nearly another 100 assemblers of motorcycles are operating in the country, some are real active and some dormant. However, many sector analysts say that one can establish a 'motorcycle assembly plant' in his/her back yard with relatively lower cost and sell the CBU in rural areas, where people are still not too quality conscious and also not very particular about fuel consumption.
