Nearly 300 performing arts professionals from 53 countries-ranging from Angola to Wales-gathered in Athens, Greece, Oct. 14-20 for Thespis 2002, the biennial International Theatre Institute World Congress, organized by the Greek Center of ITM.
TCG, which is the U.S. Center of ITI, fielded a 13-person delegation, including Martha Coigney, the longtime director of ITI/U.S.; TCG executive director Ben Cameron; deputy director Joan Channick; director of artistic programs Emilya Cachapero; Philip Arnoult, director of the Center for International Theatre Development (Baltimore, Md.); Jeff Church, producing artistic director of the Coterie Theatre (Kansas City, Mo.); Ilona Copen, executive director of the New York International Ballet Competition; Michael Fields, managing artistic director of the Dell'Arte Company (Blue Lake, Calif.) and president of ITI/U.S.; Peter Goldfarb, director of the Goldfarb Institute for Advanced Theatre Studies at Naropa University (Boulder, Colo.); Jorge Z. Ortoll, executive director of the Ma-Yi Theatre Company (New York City); Deborah Rhodes, artistic director of Encompass Opera Theatre (New York City); director Christopher Martin; and Ellen Stewart, founder/artistic director of La Mama ETC (New York City).
