Japan Telecom Holdings, the Vodafone (VOD)-controlled No. 3 telecom carrier in Japan, Tuesday reported a first-half fiscal year profit of 43.5 billion yen ($364 million), compared to a loss of 5 billion yen ($41.8 million) during the April-September period a year ago. Revenue for the first half climbed 4.1 percent to 885 billion yen ($7.4 billion) compared to 850 billion yen ($7.1 billion) a year ago. The company credited the increase to the success of mobile phone unit J-Phone, which increased its subscribers by 769,000 for the period to a total of 13 million. Japan Telecom also said it benefited from cuts at its fixed-line business. The company raised its earnings for the full-year that ends in March 2003 to 65 billion yen ($543 million) from its May forecast of 48 billion yen ($401 million). Revenue forecasts for the full-year remains unchanged at 1.77 trillion yen ($14.8 billion).
