NEW HARTFORD - Jonas Kelly knows that saying "yes" goes a long way.
"We are a resource," says the vice president, of Jay-K Independent Lumber Corp. in New Hartford. "We're trying to solve the needs of the customer, wherever that takes us. We try not to say no."
Jay-K Independent Lumber Corp. is a retail lumberyard that also sells building materials, such as windows, doors, paint, toilets, and light fixtures.
"We pretty much sell you anything to build the house of your dreams from the basement to the roof," he says. "We don't do assembly or manufacturing."
With a wide variety of prices, the company supplies both average consumers and professionals. "Prices range from a nickel for screws, nails, widgets, and doohickeys to sky's the limit," Kelly says. A whirlpool or bay window can fetch $5,000, while a new garage goes for $6,000 or $7,000. Kelly says that 60 percent of the business comes from professionals in the contracting, home-building, and remodeling industries. The remaining 40 percent comes from average consumers.
