A husband-and-wife team-she a former sc oolteacher and he an accountant-have taken over Acapulco Joe's, a 39-year-old downtown restaurant that has survived 13 years after the death of its legendary founder.
Mark and Marcia Lasiter have purchased a majority of the business from Bob McNeil, who ran the Mexican restaurant at 365 N. Illinois St. for more than a decade since friend and founder Joe Rangel died.
"Obviously, it's a landmark in Indianapolis. It's been here forever. My husband and I use to eat here when Joe owned it and we love it," Marcia Lasiter said.
CPA Mark Lasiter, a partner in the south-side firm Lasiter & Lasiter Inc., was Acapulco Joe's accountant under McNeil. He and his wife have acquired 75 percent of the business and will pay McNeil the balance over a 10-year period, McNeil said.
