AT FIRST glance, little appears to have changed on John Deere's forthcoming revamped range of high horsepower tractors. Yet beneath the subtly reworked nose, hood and cab roof, the five wheeled and three tracked 8030 Series machines sport a host of technical changes that add up to a new performance benchmark for tractors in the 200-300hp class.
The addition of an infinitely variable transmission for the wheeled tractors will be welcomed by operators of previous models frustrated by a lack of creep speeds for potato bed working and similar specialist operations, as well as the easy driving characteristics of CVT drive for heavy haulage.
They will also be relieved to learn that the new 9.0-litre engine meets the next demanding level of emissions rules without increased fuel consumption - in fact, Deere engineers reckon to have made significant improvements in fuel economy - while delivering better power and torque characteristics...
