Hammerson and Urban Splash are wooing department store John Lewis to anchor their 600,000 sq ft regeneration of Swansea city centre. Hammerson has already secured John Lewis at a number of its schemes, including Eastgate Quarters in Leeds and Highcross Quarter in Leicester. The retailer, which will open a store in Cardiff, plans to add 22 department stores to its portfolio of 26 during the next 10 years. House of Fraser - which left Swansea four years ago - and Debenhams are also being courted to take an anchor store in the 30-acre project. Plans for the £1bn regeneration of Swansea city centre include 1,000 flats, alongside a hotel, other leisure uses and offices.
