Jupiter Media Metrix Inc. (JMM) in New York was founded by The NPD Group in 1996 as PC Meter LP. It was spun out as an independent company in May 1997 and became a public company in May 1999.
U.S. research-only revenues for 2001 were $68.6 million, down 27.5% from 2000. In '01, 20.0% of total research-only revenue, or $172 million, was from work conducted outside the United States. The revenues exclude JMM's events business, and the growth rate includes the 2000 and 2001 revenues of Jupiter Communications Inc., acquired in September 2000.
Tod Johnson is the chairman of JMM, and Robert Becker is CEO.
JMM is a provider of research and measurement products and services that analyze the impact of the Internet and new technologies on commerce and marketing. Its business units include Media Metrix, Jupiter Research, AdRelevance and Jupiter Events, and the company employs 430 full-time.
