Standardized design lops 18 months off of the time it takes to build a new hospital
Eight years ago, Kaiser Permanente, I Oakland, Calif., launched a program Ito speed the construction of new host pitals, enhance safety, improve efficiency and save money. The initiative has achieved most of those results-saving millions of dollars in design and construction costs and lopping 18 months off of the time it takes to get a hospital built.
Two of the hospitals have opened thendoors using a template process, and another will follow this fall. Others are in the works. Kaiser officials say something had to be done because it was taking roughly eight years to get a hospital from conceptualization through construction.
