Each year in mid-January, well over 100 Kansas bankers travel to Topeka for the sole purpose of meeting, listening to, and offering input to state and national legislators on banking issues, education, economic development, taxes, and other issues that affect them as well as their customers and communities.
The KBA-sponsored Harold A. Stones Public Affairs Conference, on January 16 in Topeka, hosted Governor Kathleen Sebelius, U.S. Senator Sam Brownback, U.S. Cyongressman Dennis Moore, Kansas Speaker of the House Doug Mays, Chair of the Senate Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee Ruth Teichman, Senate Minority Leader Anthony Hensley, and House Minority Leader Dennis McKinney.
