KENNARDS Hire says its silenced 150mm pumps are being used regularly by the Colyer Fehr Group to help with the export of tallow to China. The family-owned business supplies animal fat for soap making and other industrial uses. In a recent shipment, the Colyer Fehr Group utilised five of the pumps to transfer the tallow into holding tanks aboard a parcel tanker vessel. The tallow is liquefied by heating to at least 60°C. An average pumping rate of 125t an hour was achieved from 15 road tankers, which ran a shuttle between the company's storage tanks and the ship. Each pump is capable of transferring a little over a tonne a minute, or approximately 1300L.According to the company, a key advantage the 150mm pumps had over others in the past is the manual lift pump, which allows the unit to maintain a high discharge rate as head pressure into the pump falls.
