Sitting down to map out his office's future, Kansas Attorney General Phill Mine keeps returning to the past.
Kline told The Business journal that he's ready to push his agenda of improving what he considers the office's hostile reputation in the business community and shifting the focus of its consumer protection philosophy.
"The power of this office... I believe resulted in coercive settlements and nuisance settlements," he said of the administration run by predecessor and fellow Republican Carla Stovall. "We're not engaged in that practice anymore.
But the sale of Health Midwest to Nashville-based HCA Inc., a bruising legal ,battle that consumed his first two and a half months in office, won't go away.
Besides lingering details that need ironing out, such as incorporating the foundation that will oversee Kansas' $105 million share of the sale and making five of the 27 appointments to that foundation, Mine continues to defend how he handled the sale.
