The Kmart on Sacramento's Howe Avenue is closing to make way for a Home Depot.
The store, open for 33 years, is one of 18 Kmarts nationwide that The Home Depot Inc. is buying for $271 million.
Kmart Holding Corp. told the store last week that it will shut in mid-October, Kmart spokesman Stephen Pagnani said. Kmart Holding (Nasdaq: KMRT) has named a but one of the stores it's closing, and eight are in California.
Shutting the 95,000-square-foot store at Howe and Wyda Way ends the jobs of 85 people. "We don't do formal transfers," Pagnani said.
Sources say Home Depot offered the East Coast owners of the location $8 million.
