KOCE is scaling back its year-old news program "Real Orange,"cutting its budget by about 40%.
The program, launched Sept. 1, 1997, has become an expensive endeavor for the $5.3 million public cable television station that broadcasts on Channel 50. The first-year budget grew to about $650,000, KOCE chipped in about $300,000 and another $350,000 came from a group of corporate underwriters including the Times Mirror Foundation.
