Long Islanders tired of all the for sale signs dotting the landscape can blame Mike Tiefenworth.
Tiefenworth and his company, Everlast Sign & Service, have been installing those ubiquitous real estate signs for two decades, and with so many homes for sale lately, business has been brisk.
"It used to be we'd put 20 up and take 20 down," the sign man said. "Now it's more like 35 up and five down."
A former construction worker in the homebuilding industry, Tiefenworth lost his job in 1990. That's when a friend in real estate suggested he look into the for sale sign business.
