LabOne Inc. will open a call center at the Summit Technology Campus in Lee's Summit in January.
The move initially will bring 100 people to the campus. LabOne expects to employ 450 people in Lee's Summit within two years.
The first wave of employees working in the Lee's Summit center will relocate from a center now in Independence. The company's lease on the Independence site expires at the end of this year.
Tom Grant, LabOne's CEO, said the campus will pick up other employees now spread out among several locations as well as about 150 new positions.
LabOne, a national laboratory testing and information service provider, signed a long-term lease for about 50,000 square feet on the campus, which Payless Cashways Inc. formerly occupied.
LabOne's space is being converted by McCownGordon Construction of Kansas City. Brett Gordon, the construction company's president, said crews started work last week. LabOne wants to move in the first week of January, Gordon said.
