Worldwide Computer Products News-11 October 2000-LaCie releases new CD-RW device (C)1995-2000 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http:// www.m2.com LaCie has introduced what it claims to be the fastest CD- RW device on the market. In 12x CD-R mode the new CDRW 12x10x32x can write a complete 650Mb CD in about 6 minutes - the industry's highest CD recording speed according to LaCie. The drive can also be used to write/rewrite CD-RW media at 10x speed, which in turn is the industry's fastest rewrite speed says the company. The product incorporates Sanyo's BURN-Proof (Buffer Under RuN) technology, allowing the CD-RW to automatically adapt to system speed to provide error-free recording at 12x speeds. Other features include 32x playback, 150ms access and a FireWire interface to make the drive hot-pluggable. The LaCie CDRW-12x10x32 (FireWire) CD-RW device will be available from the end of this month, priced at GBP339+VAT. A SCSI version of the product is already available.
