Rena Lange is not a household name. Lots ofwomen's apparel designers are better known. Many rake in bigger sales volume. And several are generating more buzz.
But that's all right with Debbie Baum, president of Manhattan-based Rena Lange USA Inc.
A base of wealthy customers who demand top-of-the-line quality and style have discovered Lange a division of Munich-based M. Lange Co. CmbH. For these women, the sophisticated feminine prints and design touches in the collection's suits and jackets offer a welcome alternative to the youth-obsessed looks of most fashion. And the prices, starting at $1,100 for a dress, have not dampened their enthusiasm. Lange's U.S. sales have soared tenfold in four years to $10 million.
"Our clothes flatter women from size 4 to 16," explains Ms. Baum. "Our customer appreciates that. We'll continue to grow, but not at the expense of our design integrity or prestige."
