Indiana Business Magazine celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. Each month we will turn back into the pages of the magazine started as Indiana Business and Industry at Culver, Indiana, in the summer of 1957.
When Don Marsh was named Indiana Business Magazine's CEO of the Year in 1993, he boasted that his company's newest supermarkets featured a "fresh food concept" borrowed from England.
In 1958, Henry J. Eavey's flagship store in Fort Wayne--which at 80,000 square feet was the largest supermarket in the world at the time--pioneered that concept. Profiled in the July issue that year, Eavey's revolutionary store featured "turning spits and...
