In April 1992, Michael Gross wrote the New York magazine "War of the Poses" cover story, on the pending rivalry between Vogue editor- in-chief Anna Wintour and Tilberis, whose debut issue at Harper's Bazaar would come that September. The inference that Gross expounded upon--and others at the time did, too--was that Tilberis was the latest in a line of snooty, know-it-all Brits (she succeeded Wintour as British Vogue editor-in-chief in 1997) who would demand to be treated regally at the right fashion shows and the right restaurants.
