Two of the city's largest law firms are considering a merger that would vault them into the top five practices in Indianapolis, according to several sources.
They said officials at Johnson Smith LLP-the city's seventh-largest law firm with roughly 52 attorneys and about 110 full-time employees-and McHale Cook & Welch PC are in the midst of talks that could result in a marriage.
Local attorneys said such a partnership makes sense and could result in a legal powerhouse rivaling the city's top three firms: Ice Miller Donadio & Ryan, Baker & Daniels and Barnes & Thornburg.
