NEW YORK -- Leonard L. Farber, a founder and first chairman of the International Council of Shopping Centers and a leading developer during the nation's postwar suburban mall boom, died Thursday after a bout with Parkinson's Disease. He was 89.
His development firm, The Leonard L. Farber Co., developed some three dozen centers, including Florida's Pompano Fashion Square, Orlando Fashion Square and The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale.
"For ICSC, he is `the Founding Farber' who from the first day of the establishment of our association remained our guide. Soft-spoken, his few words carried great weight," John T. Riordan, who served as ICSC's president from 1986 to 2001, said in a statement.
