Dump Blue Oval, dealer exec urges
To the Editor:
Several weeks ago, Jim O'Connor, president of Ford Division, asked Ford dealers around the country to contact their dealer association presidents and other dealer association executives and ask them to "express your opposition to any lawsuit that seeks to end" the Blue Oval program.
The California Motor Car Dealers Association received e-mails and calls from six of California's 225 Ford dealers. Two were opposed to the association's involvement in any lawsuit, and four dealers supported our action to end the discriminatory pricing aspects of the Blue Oval program.
Because of O'Connor's letter, we conducted our second survey of Californi Ford dealers on Blue Oval pricing. As of April 4, we had received responses from more than 50 percent of the California Ford dealers.
Eighty-four percent of them supported our involvement in the coalition of dealer groups seeking to file a lawsuit to end the discriminatory pricing aspects of Blue Oval, even though a large number of those dealers indicated they were already Blue Oval certified.
